It takes a few rides to get used to the steeply reclined position but if you dial in the length between your seat and the pedals ... the bike is far more stable, even when climbing 6-10% grades.Dan Fallonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07657026114332397755noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6347564861204194835.post-8297886113620439262023-07-10T09:24:07.674-07:002023-07-10T09:24:07.674-07:00That's quite the contraption. At times, I couldn't make it 20 minutes or so between stops. I even carried an extra water bottle and got real creative with liquid elimination. I ride a Bacchetta Carbon Basso and modified your procedure slightly based on another post I read here https://www.triandclimb.com/post/taking-the-cycling-catheter-to-the-next-level. I routed a 1/4 id vinyl tube back to the rear wheel and inserted a bent spoke to keep it pointing away from the wheel. The tube quick disconnect works well; you will only forget to connect it once (I did that on a solo century). Also, I got some catheter samples from the Dr. and found that Coloplast Coveen Optima, for me, works a lot better than the Rochesters I had been buying locally. The catheter material is a bit thicker and has ribs so it does not kink up and the adhesive is not as agressive but is still strong enough and easier to remove. You can get free samples here: https://products.coloplast.us/coloplast/continence-care/conveen/conveen-optima/conveen-optima-male-external-catheter-standard-length/.
With these, you can stretch the end of the catheter over the tube eliminating the need for tape. Also, I found that heating a large needle with a lighter and making two small holes in the tube gives nice clean vent holes that are just as effective as a larger one without as much leakage. Attached is a pic of my setup. My next project is to adapt a leg bag to use on club rides (more discreet) to make it between rest stops.
I'm just now starting to read your other blog articles. Keep up the good work and I wish you many more miles.
