Forrest and I decided to ride over the White Spars today. Nothing intense or fast. Time for a nice, slow, leisurely Sunday morning bike ride.
On the way back (just south of mile 20) I saw a firetruck, an EMT vehicle, a police car and three motorcycles off on the west side of the road One of the motorcycle's front end looked like it was made out of clay and had been mangled. All the motorcycles were of the `crotchrocket' variety.
The EMTs, fire personnel and police were standing deep in a ravine off the side of the road. Below I noted a person laying on the dirt, on it's back, with a sheet over the top half.
That particular section of the road,(crotchrocket) when traveling south, is a steeply descending switchback. Apparently one of the `rocketeers' chose to ignore physics and thermodynamics.
I've worked with nurses for 20 years and they have all told me the same thing. Their worst experience while doing rounds in training was their stint in the ER. When a motorcylce accident - with no helmet - was admitted. Just another cantelope splattering on the pavement.
ReplyDeleteMy brother was paralyzed in a motorcycle accident and died five years later as a result. Two years ago another accident on the Spars resulted in a death. Two motorcycles crashed into one another going the opposite direction. Again, on a descending switchback.
ReplyDeleteHelmet or no, 89S is not a racetrack, even though these fools believe themselves to be immortal and capable. They're not...obviously. My son in New Zealand is taking racing lessons from professionals on a closed track. I don't especially like it but it's a saner way to go fast.
